The deep fat fryer not only makes the BEST deep-fried chips, it also makes it incredibly fast and easy with minimal clutter.
It would easily take 50 minutes to bake them in the oven … but here you are only looking at a cooking time of 20 minutes or less!
Here are all the ingredients you will need for all 3 recipes …

BEST Deep Fryer Chips Recipes:
Which fryer are you using?
I use Ninja Foodi Max (also known as Ninja Foodi XL), which is not only a deep fat fryer, but also a healthy food grill (see photo above).
Of course, even if I use this particular machine, any deep fryer will do! Just remember that they are all slightly different, so keep in mind that:
.Some fryers have smaller frying compartments than others (I have 3.8 L), so if you have significantly less, you will have to fry the potatoes in several batches.
.Some deep fat fryers will not heat up to 200 ° C / 400 ° F; in this case, use the highest possible temperature.
Some fryers have a paddle that turns food over during cooking. In this case, it is not necessary to turn them in half.
.Cooking times can vary from deep fat fryer to deep fat fryer. So use your own judgment to find out when your chips run out!
Which fryer should I buy?
Of course, I can wholeheartedly recommend mine (link here). Incredible! But, of course, the decision is completely yours.
Mine is more expensive as it also looks like a healthy grill (it basically works like George Foreman, which is great when we can’t barbecue in the winter months).
Some of the more inexpensive options we reviewed were the Tower Air Fryer and Tefal Easy Fry Precision.
But whatever you buy, I would recommend buying one that has a capacity of around 4 liters. You just can’t cook a lot in something less and you’ll have to cook potatoes in small batches!
Are air- fries healthier?
It depends on what to compare them with. Compared to making the same kind of fries with the same amount of oil in the oven … it’s almost the same!
(although I personally prefer to add more oil when I bake them in the oven)
But of course, when you compare them to french fries, you don’t need to be a registered dietitian to know that fried potatoes are much healthier. Moreover, you only need to add 1 tablespoon of oil, instead of fully submerging them!
Which potatoes should you use for deep fryer chip recipes?
Starch / flour potatoes are best for making French fries; These include Maris Piper, King Edward, Desiree, or red potatoes.
But honestly, any potato will do! But mealy potatoes usually give a crisp appearance and a nice fluffy middle.
Can I Make Your Deep Fryer Chips Recipes Oil Free?
I wouldn’t recommend it at all if you want crisp; For best results, I always recommend using a little oil; After all, it’s only 1-2 tablespoons!
Why? It is the oil that gives the potatoes their crispness. Have you ever baked potatoes in the oven without oil?
Skin will NEVER get crispy, but rather wrinkled, dry and papery. Plus, the meat becomes more dehydrated and harder than crunchy!
This is why a little oil is essential, especially in a deep fryer!
Do I need to peel potatoes first before slicing them into molds?
Not! You can leave the skin without the skin for all three recipes: the skin is beautiful and crispy, and this is the most nutritious part of a potato. This adds great flavor too!
I generally peel the fries, but this is purely for cosmetic reasons. Luckily, you can do this with your skin too.
Do I need other cooking utensils to make my fries in the deep fryer?
Yes! For air frying (recipe 1) you only need a sharp knife and cutting board.
But to make perfect-sized fries and cook evenly, you need a mandolin; I use this one. You can of course cut the potatoes without it, but it takes MUCH longer and harder to get a uniform shape so they all cook at the same time.
This eliminates the hard work of cutting, ensuring that you can get pretty, uniformly sized discs that can then be cut into smaller strips with a sharp knife.
HOWEVER, I will soon buy one of these 6-in-1 mandolins because they have a blade that cuts perfectly shaped fries. This way, you don’t need to cut discs after using the mandolin.
Do I need other utensils to make deep fryer chips?
Yes, I’m sure you won’t be surprised to learn that to make wrinkled shavings … you need a wrinkle cutter. Here is a link to the one I’m using. Once you have one, you will be doing them all the time!
Can I just cook them in the oven? I don’t have a deep fryer!
I have included notes under each recipe that show the times and instructions on how to cook the whole thing in the oven.
Sure, the oven doesn’t do the best, but these are the best French fries you’ll get in a deep fryer!
How do you know if your deep fryer chips are ready?
You want a beautiful golden finish with slightly golden crisp edges.
If they show no signs of darkening, they may need some more time in the deep fryer.
3 BEST deep fryer crisps recipes?
They’re so easy to make and you don’t need anything more than a deep fat fryer and a sharp knife / cutting board to make them!
You can’t go wrong with this, they are very crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Here is the prescription:
Ingredients
.2 medium to large potatoes
.1-2 tablespoons of oil
.1 teaspoon salt
.1/2 teaspoon black pepper
instructions:
- 1 Cut the potatoes into 8 mm strips. They don’t need to be cleaned, but you can if you really want to!Toss them in a medium bowl and add oil and seasonings. Stir well until coated well.
2 You can add any additional condiments here if you like – dried herbs are great, as well as dried rosemary. Just add 1 tablespoon of any of these.
3 Turn on the fryer at 200c / 400F (or as high as possible if it does not reach that temperature) and set the timer for 20 minutes. I used Ninja Foodi Max (aka Ninja Foodi XL) for your information.
4 After the fryer is preheated, place all the fries in the crisp basket and close the lid / place the compartment in the machine.
5 After 10 minutes, turn them halfway. It is always a good idea to check the potatoes a few minutes before they are cooked to make sure they are not too browned. Of course, if they’re not particularly gold yet, you can always add another 3-5 minutes.
6 Enjoy!
